Financial Problems

I'm not sure if this is just a state thing, but here in Maine, as long as you are paying something then they cannot come after you. (check with your CF clinic, someone there might know) Thats what I do. If all I can afford is five buck for the bill thats all they will get. Never get a loan for them, or put them on a credit card. They are interest free, so it will cost you more if you do.

But there is no real magic trick. Mine are not nearly as bad as others, but when I first started to pay my own medical bills, I thought I would never get out of them, and some have gone, but I have faced the fact that I will never be rid of them.

I did in the past, real recent past have a ton of medical bills... One time about six years ago I filed for bankruptcy and I was able to get rid of leans, debt and all kinds of stuff that I had agaist my name.. I didn't have health insurance from the time I was 18 till about 27 or so so I racked in more debt than it would have been humanly possible for me to pay.

Since having health insurance till about a year and a half ago I still was having a ton of debt with bills because I had a low paying job and was in school full time..

I graduated nursing school and I lived with my parents for almost a full year and I was able to totally dig myself out of debt.. I took my entire paycheck for six months and negotiated with collections, hospitals etc....

I read a bunch of books by Suzie Orman and I learned as much as I could.. I really wouldn't have cared so much about my credit score but I wanted to ( and did) buy a home and with bad debt you get suckie interest rates..

Now that I own a home, I am as quick as possible to pay a bill but I believe it is true in each state, as long as you are paying something, they usually leave you alone.

with most cfers the situation is like this. earn a small amount so you can keep your benefits but be broke. OR. earn a lot, lose your benefits and have to pay large medical costs and be broke anytway. so unless you dont need medications or you happen to be a millionaire, youre screwed either way. *grumble* i fall into the earn a little and keep benefits category.
