Frequent Vomiting in Cystic Fibrosis

My daughter is 2 and was Diagnosed with CF at 19 months. When she was 2 days old she started vomiting, when she was 3 days old she started coughing. She had persistant cough and vomiting until December when she was diagnised with CF. She also had severe failure to thrive. Our doctors kept saying it was asthma and GERD. From December when she was diagnosed and started on enzymes, she stopped vomiting and the cough went away. In April she caught a cold and ever since then she has been vomiting and coughing again. She was hospitalized for 14 days in July for an exacerbation, but the cough and vomiting did not resolve. Our pulmonologist, does not think the cough is becuase of her lungs, they sound clear, chest x-ray looks good and cultures are negative. She does have her scheduled for a bronch next week to double check and make sure there is nothing hiding. Our GI does not think the vomiting is GI related. My daughter vomits about every other day. It is not food related. It is not activity related. We did a stool collection in the hospital and the GI feels she is on the right amount of enzymes. She is finally growing. SHe had a pH probe while hospitalized that was normal and she is on Prevacid already. My question how many of the other CF'ers on this site have frequent vomiting without other active issues. And has anyone ever heard a good explaination why kids with Cf have frequent vomiting? I suspect it is CF related, but can not find any info and I think our GI thinks I am crazy.

When DS was 1 1/2 to 2 months old he coughed so hard he'd vomit, but we later found out he had bronchitis -- he did culture enterbactor choclae (Sp) when we took him to his CF doctor in the City. The local CF doctor told us his coughing was normal, lungs were clear -- they didn't do a culture at that appointment...

He also had some spit-up issues as a baby as well and was put on zantac for reflux. He would also vomit when he was younger if he got constipated...

Is she on any medications that could be upsetting her stomach -- ABX, vitamins.... DS has always been able to take his meds, we only started having sporadic issues with vomiting when the days got hotter and he was switched to zithromax tablets instead of liquid.

She is on ADEK and Zinc. We stopped these for several weeks to see if the vomiting changed and it did not. She had her cultures done by the CF center and was admitted at the CF center. We do not have a local option. We also stopped her Zithromax to see if that helped. It did not. She does not just spit up it is actual projectile vomiting, large amount across the room. She has had all sorts of tests done all of them are negative. The cough and the vomiting are not at the same time. She is not coughing until she throws up, usually she throws up first and then coughs for several hours afterwards.

Perhaps it is some sort of acid reflux. When I was 14 I went through a period where I could not stop throwing up. I took some TUMS and it went away instantly. I would look into that.
