Going to Disneyworld!!!

I'm not sure if you all are familiar with the "Kid Kraddick in the Morning Show" or not, but each year they select a few families with chronically ill children to take on an all expenses paid Disneyworld dream vacation.

Well, this year they selected my family!!! We are soooo excited. However, I am also secretly very nervous. My husband and I have 5 children (ages 16, 13, 10, 9 & 9). My 13 year old and 9 year old both have CF.

As excited as I am, I am also completely overwhelmed at the thought of taking all 5 kids to Disneyworld. The crowds, the heat, the walking all day... I haven't expressed my fears to my family because I don't want to put a damper on their excitement, but I am really stressing out. I am not sure what I am afraid of. There are several things, really. One of the kids getting lost, trying to keep everyone happy and not fighting over where we will go and when, one of the girls getting sick so far from home, etc. This is the worst time of year for my 13 year old. She nearly always ends up in the hospital in December every year.

Does anyone have any tips on how to handle a trip to a place like Disneyworld with a family the size of mine? Anything to make me feel less overwhelmed would be helpful.

One other thing that is stressing me out a little is that I got a letter the other day letting me know that there are several families with CF'ers going on the trip this year. They can't tell any of us who the others are but just that there are several. We will all be traveling together and staying in the same hotel. I'm sure that once we get to talking to other families we will find out who has what, but it's still a little nervewracking...

Sorry this is so long... Thanks in advance for any tips you may have to offer!

Edited to add: I forgot to say that we leave next Thursday! So it's coming up very soon!

It sounds like you're going to need a vacation from your vacation!

I guess the only thing I can think of is when you first enter the park, pick out a unique or easy-to-find place and say if anyone gets seperated they should go directly there and you can meet up again.

Splitting your self into two groups might help, so you and your husband only have to keep track of two or three kids instead of two of you keeping track of five. Like splitting the kids who want to/ are tall enough to go on the scary rides from the ones who don't.

You don't have to completely split up, either, you could say, "Okay, you guys go ride the roller coaster, and the rest of us will ride the spinning teacups, and then we'll meet back here and decide what to do next."

Renee,

Heh! You guys are going to have so much fun, try to relax and just enjoy yourself. I have 6 kiddos at home and we went to Sea World a little over a year ago. We lugged Zoe's vest, machine, etc... with us. I went to the store here at home and bought my kids very bright t-shirts all the same color, that is what they wore at the park, easier to spot them. Stay together is a biggie. Or you can do the one parent with the older rides, another with the younger rides thing also.
We checked into the hospitality when we got there, they gave our family a special pass to go to the front of lines, so Zoe wouldn't have to wait in long lines in the heat. You can also go to their first aid stations to do treatments, vest, relax in the air conditioning.
Take lots of hand sanitizer, wipes, water.
Back packs are great to put your stuff in, purses are hard to keep up with.
As far as the other cf families, that is a hard one. I guess I would just make sure our family stayed away from the other families until we knew which ones were the cf'ers.

Have fun, wow, an all expense trip to Disney!! My kids haven't been because of the cost, so enjoy!!!!!! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

By the way, this is a great time of year to come, it is only about between 70 and 80 degrees out. Shouldn't be too bad of crowds either.
