I'm not sure if you all are familiar with the "Kid Kraddick in the Morning Show" or not, but each year they select a few families with chronically ill children to take on an all expenses paid Disneyworld dream vacation.
Well, this year they selected my family!!! We are soooo excited. However, I am also secretly very nervous. My husband and I have 5 children (ages 16, 13, 10, 9 & 9). My 13 year old and 9 year old both have CF.
As excited as I am, I am also completely overwhelmed at the thought of taking all 5 kids to Disneyworld. The crowds, the heat, the walking all day... I haven't expressed my fears to my family because I don't want to put a damper on their excitement, but I am really stressing out. I am not sure what I am afraid of. There are several things, really. One of the kids getting lost, trying to keep everyone happy and not fighting over where we will go and when, one of the girls getting sick so far from home, etc. This is the worst time of year for my 13 year old. She nearly always ends up in the hospital in December every year.
Does anyone have any tips on how to handle a trip to a place like Disneyworld with a family the size of mine? Anything to make me feel less overwhelmed would be helpful.
One other thing that is stressing me out a little is that I got a letter the other day letting me know that there are several families with CF'ers going on the trip this year. They can't tell any of us who the others are but just that there are several. We will all be traveling together and staying in the same hotel. I'm sure that once we get to talking to other families we will find out who has what, but it's still a little nervewracking...
Sorry this is so long... Thanks in advance for any tips you may have to offer!
Edited to add: I forgot to say that we leave next Thursday! So it's coming up very soon!
