hand sanitizer question

I have a question about waterless hand sanitizer. My CF daughter is 4 and in preschool and they regularly use hand sanitizer and my 6 yr. old non-CF daughter is in kindergarten, they don't use it at her school at all, only soap and water. We use it at home a lot. A while back when my 6 yr. old was sick I sent a travel size w/ her to school but her teacher wouldn't let her use it b/c they have soap and water there. Does anyone here have their children that are school aged use hand sanitizer at school more than other children to help prevent bringing bad bugs home to the CF's? Or does it really make a difference?

Thanks in advance!

Oh my, are you kidding? My seven year old is a hand sanitizing crazy girl! She's on her way to making her three year old brother the same way.. Her school has always been open to anything I suggest with regards to germs and such. When she was in preschool, the teacher actually made a sanitizing station that every kid used when they would re-enter the room - it was a rule. Not only good for her, but for everyone. I really don't understand why the teacher would have a problem with your daughter using it - besides, she's not the one that has to be there for your daughter when she's at home sick and coughing a lot. My daughter is actually becoming more aware of others around her. If she hears someone coughing a lot, or if someone has a runny nose and she happened to hold hands or use something they may have just touched, she'll sanitize. It's a lot faster than running to the sink and washing your hands every time. My daughter may be a little extreme, but I'm not complaining! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Most kids and adults for that matter do not properly wash their hands with soap and water. My daughter's CF center says that if you can see the dirt use soap if not use sanitizer. I'd have a talk with that teacher if I were you. My son will start kindergarten this year and he will be bringing sanitizer.

Hi Tracey,

It's actually my 6 yr.old non-CF that her teacher won't let her use sanitizer. My CF'er uses it at preschool. I'm wondering if I could get my daughter's (non CF) teacher to let her use it a lot if it would make a difference in helping her to NOT bring home bad bugs to my CF daughter. What do you think?
