hand sanitizer question

Some things I've done. At the start of my oldest (non-CF) sons school year, I donate a large (indsutrial sized) pump bottle of purell. The ask for donations of it anyway, but I have a friend who works for GoJo the company that makes it and they are very good to me!!! So I donate the big pump, and my son says it sits by the door and they use it when they come and go.

I also buy (or get them through my friend) the little packets of wipes that have purell on them. I put one in my son's lunch everyday and he knows to wipe down before he eats.

When he gets home every day, he washes his hands with soap and water.

My other (non-CF) son's pre-school also uses purell regularly.

I think most places are becoming aware of how important germ care is, and that has nothing to do with CF.

My sister works in a school that doesn't allow hand sanitizer because it is harmful if swallowed. Her school was switching to the sanitizing wipes. We use them all the time on Miguel's hands - is it possible to send them in instead? Miguel isn't in school yet but I worry about what will happen when he is...I can't imagine him not using some form of hand sanitizer. Definitely stress to the teacher how important this is. Good Luck!

My daughter's CF center says that if you can see the dirt use soap if not use sanitizer. I'd have a talk with that teacher if I were you. My son will start kindergarten this year and he will be bringing sanitizer.</end quote></div>
Emily's cf center told us the same thing and we sent her to school with her own small box of tissues and bottle of Purell. Both boys' classrooms have Purell in the classrooms and especially when they were younger (which was before we knew Emily had cf), all the kids' teachers taught & enforced proper blowing/coughing techniques (not into hands!), to keep hands out of mouths, and used both wipes and liquid frequently in the classroom & kept counters/tables, etc clean. I definitely appreciated such excellent focus on good hygiene even without knowing about cf.

i know that there have been problems with small children mangaging to get alcohol posioning from hand sanitizer by using too much of it and then putting thier hands in their mouth but thats the only reason i can think of to insist upon soap and water instead of hand sanitizer but can't a 6 year old keep their hands out of their mouth? (i'm not being sarcastic i actually don't know when children stop putting their hands in their mouth, or much else about children for that matter lol) seems weird to me
