Have you ever picked up a bug in the hospital?

Here's my experience;

For years, I rinsed my neb equipment in hot tap water after every use, and only disinfected with vinegar and hot water once a week. I got PA when I was 14. Know where I got it from?

The hospital. Had nothing to do with tap or bottled water.

How do I know this? Because after that one particular hospital stay, my last culture of the week period came back positive for psudo, and ever after. I only recently stopped culturing psudo (about three years ago) and I still only disinfect once a week. My doctor also agrees that I picked it up from that one hospital stay. Just goes to show that you can be as germ paranoid at home as you want. Go into a hospital, and your prone to everything... That's why I stay with home I.V.'s as much as possible!

I got b.cepacia while in the hospital. I haddnt been in the hospital in about 14 years ( when i was hospitalized before it was for diabetes) I had to have a sinus surgery so this was my first hospital stay in this hospital, and i was completely unaware of the dangers. After the surgery , i was so drained but i expected that from the anesthesia, but when it lasted for months and then started to be accompanied with a constant cough and fevers, and body aches, i knew for sure something was going on. I wont go in the hospital unless absolutely necessary All of my iv treatments are done at home where i can stay active and safe from who knows what. I dont go in for a few days to start it off, i start it right here at home where its cleaner.
