Have you ever picked up a bug in the hospital?

I went into the hospital in 2003 to have a blockage removed from my intestinal area, and during recovery I got pneumonia. I ended up on a ventilator for 6 days till they found a drug combo that finally started working for my lungs. It was an awful experience, and scares me to think that I picked something up in a hospital that could have done me in.

We think I got m.abscessus after a sinus surgery.....about 3 months after the surgery I started running fevers and feeling terrible. At the time of infection, I was on high dose steriods to treat inflammation...something they don't do anymore because it impairs our already weakened immune sytsems.

Several years after my surgery my hospital admitted that they had several cases of myobacterial infections from scopes....

Our best guess is that is where I got it....but, I also go to Florida all the time and many cfers in the southeast culture mycos...only the man upstairs really knows when I truly picked it up.
