Help me work this out

Oh, and I would show her friend's parents (maybe invite them over for coffee or something) how everything works, what and how she should be doing things, and written instructions about it, with clear instructions on sterilizing her nebs. It will make it easier on them if they have something to refer back to if they have a question <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0"> .

i went to the ocean last year and to be honest i did my meds about 50% of the time. this is just me but being in that ocean air during the day really made meds fruitless and seemed pointless, everything was already out. i could tell when we were getting close just because i could feel a difference in the way i felt and how much i was coughing because of the ocean air. i would say that the pulmozyme of everything is the most important thing to make sure she gets in just because of how it works, it breaks down the junk in your lungs to make it easier to get out. running around at the beach and swimming in the ocean should do a pretty good job of taking the place of the vest and the ocean air could make the HS non benificial. Ultimately this is your child and your call depending on her health, attitude, stuff like that. i completely understand the idea that she'll think that skipping treatments is ok, which brings in the parents descretion, if you explain to her why she isn't doing her meds like she normally is do you think she'll understand why and not get the idea that breaks are ok anytime?

I don't know where your daughter's health is at but whenever I went on holiday (especially do the beach coz ocean air is great for the lungs) I never did any treatments or nebs I would just try cough up stuff when I was alone. Does she know why she needs treatments and such? Then you could ask her if she thinks she can last a few days withouth them.

Thanks to all for your responses. I really appreciate the feedback.
we have been working with her on her Accapella (sp?) which we sometimes do in the car when we are running around.
her FEV1 has been in the mid 80's for a long long time. this is just her baseline. X-rays are clear.
One culture in 12 years showed MRSA back in December '06 but not since and doesn't culture anything other than 'normal flora'
her baseline when doing her vest is NO cough. none, nothing. never spits anything up. we even tried upping her HTS to 10%. doesn't even bother her.
She's on a traveling soccer team and has no problem keeping up with other kids and never seems to cough when running the whole game. (not sure I could say the same!)

I see your point about skipping HTS while down the shore, that makes alot of sense.
I also like the suggestion about sending enough neb cups for the Pulmozyme to not worry about sterilizing them.

So now I'm thing about just sending the nebulizer with the Pulmozyme and the Accapella (and a timer, which helps keep her focused).

all her other meds and vitamins are in a weekly medicine box that I sort out for her.
