Already Alex has drank 18 ounces of formula today. By the time we hit 7:30 am, he should be up to at least 24 ounces. I think he finally accepted that breastfeeding was over. I will continue to try to supplement the breastmilk into his feedings or rice cereal, so that it's not wasted. Thanks all! <img src="i/expressions/moon.gif" border="0">

Tom, My suggestion was from experience. Everyone has there own opinion and what worked for them. One difference between Jeana and I was that I introduced the bottle at 3 wks old because I knew at 3 mos old I was returning to work so weaning was not linked to bottle introduction in my case as I guess it is with Jeana. I never would suggest starvation and the OP had previously mentioned that the baby doesn't take just breastmilk.

Having dad take over the bottle feeding is actually suggested because the baby knows there's no breast option with dad. It doesn't send as much of a mixed message. It should also be noted that when I weaned my son the weekend I went away I was leaving to go for day 1-3 of Vertex 770 Ph. 2B. So there wasn't going to be any chance of him going near my breast when I returned with who knows what chemical substance throughout my body. Also my son also got 50/50 breastmilk from 7 mo's on during the day 9-5. Jeana knew all this from a previous post that I don't believe you were a part of.

Thanks for your imput. It's always good to get such an experienced father's perspective on these sorts of subjects.

just talked to my mom about this post and she reminded that I also didn't mention that when I "weaned" I didn't really because the baby was still getting expressed breastmilk from before the drug trial. thought I better explain this better. Also another big difference bw Jeana and I is that I removed the breast at 12 months where she's doing it at 5-6 mos. I think the start Jeana gave to Alex should be commended and that her decision to participate in denufusol or 770 is awesome and the best for her family.
