HELP!

Hi <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
I am a bit of a lurker on this site and am not sure if this is the right place to post this. Im wondering if anyone else suffers from gastric reflux and if so what are your symptoms and meds?

I have been getting an intense pain from time to time that my dr thinks is reflux. it comes and goes but some days has me in tears. Medication helped for a while but of late the pain is back. Has anyone else had similar experiences?

Thanks!

Where exactly is the pain?

When I get acid reflux, I take Tums. If this is something that happens often, then your doctor could prescribe a med for you to take.

Sorry I should have explained that better. The pain is just below my sternum - im told the most common place to feel acid reflux pain. but the problem i have is that the meds i have been prescribed (nexium - an antacid) is no longer working. Thanks so much for your thoughts.

Hi,

I have reflux really bad. I am on 2 Nexium 40mg/day. I know it's most likely due to the high-dose ibuprofen I was on for 13 years, but I still have problems with reflux now that I'm off it.

Pancreatic enzymes can cause gastric irritation too, and since we take those long-term (for those who are PI), that might cause some issues too.

I've read somewhere that a lot of CFers can develop reflux later in life due to the downward positions of CPT. Not sure how true that is, but definitely being upside-down can cause that acid to come right back up.

You should try some OTC meds if you haven't tried that already, or ask your MD for an Rx for something. It's definitely not uncommon for reflux in CF patients.
