Thanks dramamama! I will ask about that tomorrow when I talk to my doc! I am infusing over 1 hour.

The on-call nurse told me to skip my first infusion this morning while he talked to the on-call pulm at my hospital. They want me to keep doing the infusions but gave me the go ahead to take my prednisone. And I am going to call my doc first thing in the morning and see what they say.

The prednisone seems to have helped at least so far. I did achey after after my afternoon infusion but nothing like last night. They also said to take 1 aleve and 1 tylenol an hour before my infusion and another 1 of each after or during if I feel the pain coming on. So at least we have a plan right now until I can talk to my doc.

That is one of the side effects of Merrem. Another one is itchiness.

The half life of Merrem is 12 hours, so if you're getting it every 8 hours, that's probably why the 2nd infusion makes you ache even more. It's because there's already some in your system, and you're putting more in on top of it.

Merrem and tobra are a wonderful cocktail and very effective. See if your doctor will rewrite the prescription for a different dosage concentration. That way the side effects won't be as bad.

Good luck!

I've had Meropenem in the past twice.

The very first time I had i.v Meropenem (given 8 hourly, 3 times day, each dose for 1 hour)and (Tobramycin, once daily) I suffered no adverse reactions,
but the second time (when I had to have another tune up the next year) I suffered a violent reaction, it included a bad headaches then lead to a high fever and (the worst part) excricating pain in my abdomem and lungs. It was horrible!

When I asked my specialists why it hadn't affected me the first time he said that your body can sometimes built up an allergic reaction to certain medicines.

Hope you find a solution <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Ok, here's what the doc said. My pain was SO bad that they don't want me taking meropenem anymore. Its just not worth it if I can't function and sleep. So no more. They called in some oral cipro for me instead and I am continueing tobra.
