Hemoptysis battle again

Faust,

You may want to do some research on Pulmozyme. I did it for years and had a lot of bleeds. I stopped it and went on Hypertonic Saline and my bleeds were dramatically reduced. There is a school of thought that Pulmozyme helps only a small percentage of the CF population. I am in no way saying to go off it. You asked the question in your post. I think it's well known that it can cause bleeding. Check with your doctor.

Wow, that is some bleed you had. I wil agree with Diane as far as getting immediate help when you get a bleed like that again. It sounded pretty massive to me. A CT scan w/ contrast is the best way to go, they can usually see the vascular areas well..please don't let them foo faa you around, this is nothing to mess with!!! I have little hemoptysis, a few teaspoons here and there but nothing like you described. My doc has always said that if it is more than a few tablespoons, get it looked at. I wish you luck, I do pray that you get some answers and appropriate treatment. Jenn

I agree Sean. I had two terrible hemoptysis on pulmozyme. If your lungs are pretty healthy and there is not too much mucus to move out, the pulmozyme is digesting your lung tissue...and it will keep doing it.

I had to stop it and never had another bleed again....I can take it now that I have more junk in my lungs with no problem.

Dramamama,

Can you explain this statement. I would *assume* that my child's lungs are fairly healthy and I dont see her cough up a lot of mucus/sputum/yuckies/whatever. That does not mean the Pulmozyme is digesting her lung tissue. I just thought that sentence might need to be clarified a wee bit as to not freak anyone out.

Just an observation!!
