Hi all!

Riza - please PM me with ISBN # on the book and all info needed to do an Amazon search or B&N search.

Energy work or whatever methods one looks into are well worth the investment. I do a bit of Reki on myself and have learned that I must be careful when healing others as I seem to drain myself down to much.....and am more suseptable to infections after that....<SIGH>.

I haven't tried acupuncture, but have heard many other very positive testimonies from friends will all sorts of ailments about how well it works. I'd consider trying to find a very reputable practioner - not just anyone iwth a shingle hanging out. I know there are some certifications out there, but can't really give you good info on the issue. Personally I think getting a massage at least once a month is good for 'us' - if you can plug into a local school of massage theray as a guinea pig - you can often get super rates and go weekly. Until my work hours changed, I was getting a massage by student every 2 weeks and did very well that winter. If not, an hour runs about $60 in the midwest; not sure what other areas charge.

Supplements and other 'alternative' drugs need to be carefully assessed and explore them one at a time. They are generally helpful considering our nutrition is not the best.

Some of you that take them and have had great results (or those who haven't): I would appreciate PMs with brand names. Currently two I stick with are B vitamin formula daily and Saravento (Cat's Claw) which enhances immunity. I also will use the Zicam products first when starting to get sick (they kinda transcend the medication/supplememnt realm).

I would never give up the traditional Western medicines that help me but am willing to explore and implement alternatives when possible.

We have to serve as our own researchers here!

I recently have bought the Energy Book and so far Im liking it, I dont read it everyday but I do go to it especially if I dont feel good or if my hubby doesnt feel good either. Im glad I invested in this book it is going to help so much.

Thats great to hear that your pfts are much higher now Risa, thats great! I hope that you are not borderline diabetic but that is neat in a way with you test yourself before eating and such. Maybe I should start doing that.

Hey there,
I'm gonna have to agree with Laura. I have never felt better than when i excercise consistently for a while...(I would like it to be more, but i tend to fall out of the groove here and there ). When i excercise hard....40+ mins a day....I feel it the next day. I am a lot more clear, both in the lungs and the mind. I feel alert, calm...and just...great.

I have tried many different supplements, kept some where i found some benefit, discarded others where i felt the cost outweighed the benefits. For me, these are some of the things that i find to be helpful:
Vitamin C, DHA or EPA...about 4-6 grams a day, Alpha lipoic acid (good antioxidant, and helps with damage caused by high blood sugars, if you have them), vitamin b12, magnesium (I can't stress how great this is just before workouts. Gives you tons of energy). Quercetin, resveratrol, coq10, oregano oil (although, i don't take it as often), a good multivitamin, tumeric (although studies are showing this might not be effective, it still has great anti inflammatory and anti cancer properties), a good probiotic, NAC, and finally msm....

I also take st john's wort, 5htp and sam-e for depression, although i am gonna stop the sam-e, cause it's too similar to 5htp, and a lot more expensive) I find this combo works very well, and i don't get those thoughts that tend to mess you up.

I would suggest using this in combination with some of the western meds. The thing about tobi is that is has very little systematic effects on the body. That's the beauty of inhaling it. It goes to the site of infection, without messing up your kidneys too much. I def would not stop that.

I think it's the other antibiotics that can screw you up...the high doses of iv drugs and oral. They do a number on the kidneys, and god knows what else.

I do inhale GSH at times, although i have taken a break from that since starting the nac. However, i have noticed when i have been really ill, feeling junky and whatnot, that it does help calm the inflammation.

You know, people might think it's bombarding your body with too much stuff, but in reality, I think it's just balancing things we are lacking. We know that we have low levels of a lot of these substances because of our digestion. Add a bit of inflammation, and you can see why there can be a benefit to this stuff. Remember, this isn't untested super experimental stuff. A lot of these supplements are found in the natural foods that we eat. Most of the time though, we don't get enough of it because we don't eat enough of the foods, our GI tract sucks and our bodies use all that we do have fueling our immune system to fight the bugs, and rebuild damaged cells. IF you ever read about the immune system and stresses on it, you'll learn that a lot of symptoms of cf are similar to that of other inflammatory diseases, and ones that stress our immune system.

CF just isn't a salt imbalance. There is so much going on here. cf is the basis for all our problems, but i think it definitely branches out into other things (ie disorders from inflammation, immune system overdrive etc.). We're just evening out the playing field.

Two things i haven't mentioned....glutamine and arginine. I have taken these off and on, but always plan on trying to be more diligent with taking them, especially arginine in higher doses. I have ran past most of these to my doc, and they were pretty supportive of them, and actually quit impressed. Most of the time, the nurse has no idea what i am talking about.

As I have said before, it's your life. It is terminal, and you should treat it as such. And to make it even better...is that it just gets worse. So do something now

Hope that helped. Like people have said, start slow (unlike i did ooops ) and keep your head up. The future does look promising
