how many of you exercise/work out?

I go to the gym 1-3 X/week depending what's going on that week and how I feel. Sometimes I am way to filled up and drug out to go to the gym.

I focus on cardio, not too worried about muscle-building. I do 25 minutes on the treadmill (as there is a limit at my gym) and usually 25 minutes on the stepper. I find the elyptical (sp?) waaaaaaaaaaay to hard.

With the treadmill I try to put the incline as high as I can depending again on how I feel. The higher, the better it works my lungs. I don't have a personal trainer just because I know what areas I need to focus on and what machines I need to use. When you join a gym they will show you all the machines and explain what each one targets and how it will benefit you.

Good luck working out!

First, I would like to say congrats to Becki & Jordan, and whomever else is excercising with CF.

I have been playing ice-hockey since I was 4 yrs old and the Doctors are convinced it saved my life. Almost everyone born with CF in the 1960's has
passed away, but I am still here because of excercise.

My old lungs lasted me 35 years and now after my tx I work out at gym 3 to 4
times a week. Play ice-hockey, sometimes 4 times a week and participate on my
company softball team, once a week.

Scarlet81, I also hate running. When I am at the gym, I lift weights and bike or run. Although I enjoy biking much better then running, and rely on my hockey for my cardio excercise.

What I suggest is doing something you like. I love hockey, so it's very enjoyable. Try finding an activity you enjoy. Like shooting a basketball or playing golf while walking the course. Just find something you enjoy.

Also, I would recommend a trainer if you can afford it. It would give you motivation a month or two after you start. When everyone, including myself gets that urge to COMPLETELY FLAKE ON OUR EXCERCISE. But, no doubt excercise does help our congestion & CF related infections.

God bless you,

I do love my Jazzercise classes...though I have no idea if it's good for breathing. Dancing makes me feel good.
At the World Health Conference, there was talk about Dance Dance Revolution...wonder if that would help?

I used to work out 4-5 times a week. Just walking on the treadmill and doing to bike every now and then. But then in October I got sick and found it really hard to work out so I stopped going. I haven't been able to go back yet. I am hoping that this second time in the hospital will help clear out whatever was making me so bad. Exercise is so great for us and I feel so much better when I do.

If you think you will crap out on the motivation then I would go for the personal trainer but otherwise try it yourself. I hope you find the motivation <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
