How old were you "SUPPOSED" to be?

How old were you "SUPPOSED

A doctor gave my dad the diagnosis over the PHONE (geez) and told him I might not see 10 years old.

On the other side of the scale, my doc told me when I was a teen that I was in such good shape I'd live to be 99.

I'm currently 26, but for the last 2 years I feel like I'm in a losing battle. I'll happily split the difference between 10 and 99, but not if interferes with my quality of life or requires a transplant. When my body says "enough" then I'm outta here.

I was part of the 18 crowd - obviously it is those of us born in the 70s.

I had an uncle with CF who was 25 at that time though, so I think my parents had some good idea not to completely adhere to worrying about that number (that uncle is 55 now!)

I understand the anger thing - but to me it has always been a reason to fight. I love to prove people wrong <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">

I had an uncle with CF who was 25 at that time though, so I think my parents had some good idea not to completely adhere to worrying about that number (that uncle is 55 now!)

I was Dx at 8 years old along with
2 older brothers and a younger sister.

I heard the Docs tell my Mother that
I wouldn't make it to 18, then it was
like 24 25, then they stopped until
back in 1990 I was told I had maybe 3
years ....
I just turned 50, I have had some close calls
and I even flat lined 3 times.but I am still kicking.

Now whats REALLY odd is, a few years later the same doctor told my parents i had such a mild case of cf that i'd outgrow it. Granted it was in the late 60's very early 70's and there still wasnt much known about cf yet, but i would think a Doctor should be smart enough to know you cant "outgrow" a genetic illness. oyyyyy

Wow seems like alot of you are living 3x longer than what they thought. If that's the case my daughter may live to the ripe old age of 120!! Just keeping positive you know!!HAHA! It is nice to hear these stories thanks for helping us moms deal.
