Humidity

As I chose my career and now where I will attend grad school, I have taken the weather into consideration.

If weather/ humidity bothered me that much, I would move.

And to all you "but that's hard" people, ya I know, but sometimes you have to do what's hard for the good of your health. We all do lots of things that are difficult - or else our health pays a price.

Humidity was BAD BAD BAD for me when I lived in it. BUT, so is pollution living here in the desert of Vegas... So, I guess its hard to say if I'd go back to the clean humid air of the midwest or stay in the pollution by DRY of here....LOL... My FEV1 has gone up about 10-12% since moving OUT of the humidity though, so maybe there is some truth to humidity being pretty bad for lung function. Who knows? I think its a personal thing. I know people who breathe better in the humidity... though they don't usually have CF! LOL

Anyway, yeah, I'd just stay in the AC. And, when you exercise, crank up the AC.. It is horrid working out in high humidity. I always felt like I couldn't catch my breath at all no matter what I was doing! I've also heard to keep exhaust fans on in your bathrooms to draw out the moisture and keep it out.

Good luck!!

Amy-arent you living in a place with high levels of harmful air pollution?

No matter what part country you live in there are 'issues' you can move to AZ nice warm, no change seasons, dry, I even thought about this for a while but then there is blowing dust all over and there is a high incidence of lung issues in healthy individuals related to this. If you move to avoid humidity you will probably end up finding one of the other variables in the new location. While it is smart to consider these options it is not the perfect solution. No matter where you go you have something: either change seasons, pollution, humidity, etc you have to pick what evil you want to live with IMO.

Since things can/cant affect everyone differently you would have to pick the "lesser of the evils" with issues in climate/weather etc. Like for me....I dont mind the humidity at all. I am not thrilled with the cold, but dont dispise it. I would never move to Alaska, but definitely not AZ either. There is no perfect place for everyone. As to things being "hard".....if I had to move due to the weather away from my family & friends & the main support besides my hubby/daughter, I truly think that would be just as harmful to my health as the issues in the environment I am trying to escape from. Along the same lines also.....even if you moved from A to B...unless you had amble amount of time (all year so any "seasonal" changes could be felt) then the obvious thing like no humidity etc would not necessarily be a benefit. Allergies are a good example. My neighbor is moving from NY because there is something here that puts her baby into a terrible allergic reaction with asmtha & rash. They went to Viriginia for a week and the baby was fine. Maybe she would have been fine across the state line, but they know for sure she is ok in Virigina. SO they are chancing it & moving. OK I went on long enough!
