I hate to even ask this...

I have organ donor on my drivers license and my boys know of my wishes. I think since Dan is legally an adult he would make any decisions if I was unable to make them for myself. He's 19.

However I do wonder since I am unable to donate blood (I spent 2 years in England, so I am unable to donate for fear I am a carrier of Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (Mad Cow)) Would I be able to donate my organs. This just crossed my mind.

I am curious under what conditions is someone unable to donate?? I figured I would be because of my CF... I am guessing maybe HIV, hep??? or other diseases having to do with your blood...
********************************

I have 2 rare mitochondrial mutations. One is rare but has been seen before but the other is unique to me. My genetic Dr's advised me that for this reason I would be unable to donate. (At least until they figure out more about which body functions it doesn't effect) I also have a blood clotting disorder and a leaky valve in my heart. Blah...I'm hoping that they can find something that would be useful; but they need to do it before I'm gone!

Before this DX we just thought it was a muscle thing and I was listed to donate. So afterwards I had to change it <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-frown.gif" border="0"> I'm hoping that they figure this thing out.

*******************************************

Of course there would be exceptions... there always is... but I love LOVE the idea that everyone is automatically a donor unless they opt out...
Let's pass it... I'd vote for it...

I would too!
