I just coughed up blood

You've already been given all the advice for what you can do so I'm just here for a sympathy post.

I've had this twice so far and while the second time wasn't as bad, the first time just about had me fearing for my life. It was the same scenario. You just feel a small tickle or crackle in the middle of the chest and all of the sudden you bring up straight blood. The first time, it was coming so fast I was hovering over the toilet and I almost couldn't catch a breath because as soon as I spat out what I brought up, there was more gargling in my throat ready to be brought out. For a couple minutes, I felt like I was almost going to drown in it.

All I was told was to stay upright and get on the vitamin k and stop airway clearance. As long as I wasn't bringing up cups at a time, there wasn't much else I could do. It ended up staying with me a day or two and that night, I had to keep a bowl next to the bed to have something to do with the little plugs that broke up throughout the night. Not something you'll ever forget no doubt. Sorry for the long post, but I'm new here and it's nice to have somwhere to relate stories like this to people who go through the same things.

Take care and good luck.

I'm not hijacking the topic, I just wanted to ask.

Mel, what if you cant handle with-holding your nebs and vest for 24 hrs. I get extremely SOB around 6-8 hrs out. Going 24 hrs is out of the question for me. I recently had a bleed this week. I was asleep and was awoken by a gurgling feeling and the need to cough. It lasted on and off for about 30 mins or so. It stopped within the hour. I didnt have an issue with it during the next treatment.

I hate coughing up blood, but I have had it happen so much that I am just "used to it"... I always get "the feeling" and I know it is going to happen... usually after I work out or if I am going to get a cold...
My advice to ANYONE during a bleed is to calm yourself as much as you can... Know that it is "normal" to some extent for us... If you panic (like I used to do) it just makes it worse... it makes your heart beat faster and harder... which makes it really hard to clot...
I remember the first time like it was yesterday... and feel for you... I wrote a blog on it because I just HATE IT SO MUCH!!!
Know you are in my thoughts...
xoxo

I guess I wasnt clear. When I say I let up on my nebs that is just the "irritating" ones like pulmozyme or HTS. I still do my albeuterol/xoponex and pulmicort. You want your breathing to be easy, but yet not irritate the lungs.

Hope that clarifies what I do~~
