We do know that CF descendants that survived were from more Northern places.

Wait to the best of my knowledge CFer's didn't survive to reproductive age until the late 70s.

Are you referring to ANCESTORS who were CF carriers?

I don't think our ancestors who were CF gene carriers were impacted either way by a northern European climate (PS there are quite a number of CFer's in the middle east, and southern europe. an article i recently posted on my blog reveals that there many be many un diagnosed CF cases in India).

Just wanted to make sure we were all on the same page with the facts here....

You're absolutely correct Saveferris about it being the carriers rather than the actual CFers. Anyway, what I've always read is what I wrote in quotes below taken from http://www.questdiagnostics.co...althwise/files/cf.pdf

"CF is an inherited disease that occurs most often in
people whose ancestors come from Northern and
Western Europe."

I don't know if this has anything to do with climate or not, but it may.

I posted a question about travelling to Miami recently. I live in Ireland and am going there on vacation at the end of September. I wondered whether the humidity would be a problem. I got a few responses generally saying humidity is great for delivering the salt in the air to your lungs more efficiently, however I have to make sure to increae my salt intake. They recommended Gatorade but is this not a sugar-based rehydrater? I would have thought I'll need a solution of salts and electrolytes to add to my water?

I love hot weather and usually find it makes me feel better. In Ireland it is becoming increasingly wet. That is one thing I can say with certainty- a rainy, damp climate is NOT good, for me anyway.

In my opinion the optimum would be sunny, dry and breezy, average humidity and, most importantly, by the sea for that lovely salty air. I'd love to move to the US but can only imagine how difficult it would be seeing as I'm not a citizen. At least I'm in the EU and can freely move to southern France or Italy...guess I better get working on my languaue skills!
