Go to the health section on Ebay and search for vests. A lot of times there are some listed on there. The Hillrom models 103 and 104. I know at one point someone had a new in box hillrom 104 that went for $1000. Some of the older ones go for just a few hundred. I haven't seen any listed in awhile but they do pop up on there frequently.

Khristina i'm actually in the butthole of the world, not amercia, i'm in new zealand!! They don't use vests over here so i have no option but to try elsewhere.
I'm surprised to hear that i could possibly catch bugs off a second hand vest - how would this happen? Nothing goes in or near my mouth - the hoses connect to whatever is supply the suction/vacuum i assume, so there would be no bugs breathed into the hoses.
Surely if I was careful to clean everything thoroughly and wipe all of it over with alchohol or similar, i'd be ok?
What do others think about this?

I have mutiple resistant psuedomonas. When I am in the hospital they isolate me and even the Dr's wear gloves and gowns when they enter my room. So I dont have direct contact with anybody especially other cfers. They told me that it lives on my clothes and other stuff that I handle on a day to day basis.
So I would assume that by getting used vest and machine that is or has been handled by another cfer you are at risk of getting another bug that you dont already have.
Think about that maybe the previous vest user has cepacia or b cepacia. That would be a risk I would not take at all. I am not trying to scare you or talk you out of something I just thought I would throw out my opinion on this. Just be cautious.

hmmmm ok, makes sense, i realise our bugs can live on 'surfaces' for some time, that's why i thought wiping the whole thing down with something might make it ok, will have to give it some more thought.

you can buy the vest part for about $500 new here in Australia. Its only just become available. I think it would be better to buy the vest part new, but maybe (I was thinking about this too...) could buy the machine/pump second hand?

The whole system costs about $15000 Aus. dollars all up, but the vest can be purchased separately from the pump. Sooooo, in case you didnt know....the vest is a vest with hoses connected to a machine...I havent actually seen one except on you tube, but I do have a catalog, I can post the info if you're interested.

Has anyone purchased a pump second hand? We dont have insurance here which will cover the cost like you'all over there in the US.

We have bought a couple of vest machines off ebay for our kids (we have two with cf) and i believe they are the only ones here in NZ - i am trying to set myself up as a dealer in NZ and am in discussions with HR in Australia at the mo. please pm me and we could talk.

My clinic has said that as long as there's a 24 hour "airing out" period after wiping down a vest with disinfectant, it's safe to donate a vest. Afterall, the vest is something you wear, not put in your mouth.
