In the Name of Religion

I jsut read an interview with this lady. I am ashamed ruely ashamed she calls herself baptist...(I wrote at 5:55). Everything she is saying is not what I as a baptist am taught. I am taught that we are all sinners, but God doesn't care he loves us anyway. According to this lady shes not a sinner herself but anyone who thinks differently is? what? I have the mind to go protest at her church because they are brainwashing people, but i won't because what kind of example would i be setting. But really....i'm so mad at a loss for words...but i just want to scream WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE....what is their preacher teaching them....good grief. i got sick to my stomach reading this article. please no one think all baptists or christians think this way. its basically just some guy or girl took over and said hey we are calling ourselves christians....when in fact if they were really christians they wouldnt be acting this way. it reminds me of the KKK people that claim to be christians and all they are preaching and teaching is hatred of anyone different from themselves....and anyone who knows better knows the bible doesnt teach hatred. ok sorry i could go on all day. just like i said before get the extermists out there and its what everyone thinks is true for the rest of the people.

After all that's happened I got a small question. Do they get tax benefits or tax relief for acting stupid and claiming to be religous. Thats money wasted if so.<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif" border="0">

I really think that they should not be interviewed-I think that just gives them more reason to do this. I am Baptist also and I sure wish they wouldnt group themselves in that denomination. They remind me of the verse when Jesus said not everyone who calls me Lord Lord will enter the gates of heaven. I hope they get a glimpse of how the Amish have conducted themselves during this tragedy-maybe some of it will rub off. Susan

isnt it interesting many people say that this mobs style of belief is not what they were taught!, TAUGHT- that is the problem i see with religion, particularly the "turn or burn" bigots (thanks for that term Allie). people are TAUGHT something by strong and passionate leaders and just follow the mob like sheep. look what happens when you stop thinking for yourself and just believe without questioning -- ABSOLUTE F**KING LUNATICS HELL BENT ON DIVISION. i HATE religions that exhalt themselves above everyone else, they are for insecure and weak minded individuals.BC

Forgive me a little self-righteouness. This family makes me mad, too, but we have to remember by hating them we only condemn ourselves.

I found myself praying to God that He would silence them in some way. Maybe mute their words, or take their sight away, or something. As time went on, my frustration turned into hate, and I was asking God to kill them. I'm sure you all know the Bible says anyone who hates his brother in his heart is guilty before God of murder. Forgetting that, I continued to hate them until I heard one of them on the radio, where he got into a discussion about how he was praying for God to kill. It floored me that his and my prayer were exactly the same, just directed at different people.

It can be so easy to be decieved. I cannot, therefore, condemn the Phelps family, for I am guilty of the same sin. Someone said earlier that they should learn from the example of the Amish, and I agree, and being guilty of the same sin I realize I should learn from the example of the Amish as well. If the Phelps family had shown up, I'm sure the Amish would have responded by praying for them, that they would be forgiven their sin and turn back to God. My heart breaks for the Phelps family, and I do pray for them, as well as those hurt by them.

Again, forgive me a little self-righteousness, for I am only saying this because I do not want anyone to fall into the same deception that I did. I will close with a parable from Jesus, and it may sting for a lot of you on here. Please remember I am not doing it out of pride, but out of humility.

<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>Two men went up to a temple to pray, one a pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood and was praying this to himself: "God I thank you that I am not like other people: swindlers, unjust, aldulterers, or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I pay tithes of all that I get." But the tax collector, standing some distance away, was even unwilling to lift up his eyes to heaven, but was beating his breast, saying, "God be merciful to me, the sinner!" I tell you this man went to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted."</end quote></div>
