Yes, I've had this problem for a while and now that I'm older (48 today!) it's a constant problem. (Imagine crawling into bed for some romance and you COUGH! Need I say more????)

My dr. advised me to:

1. Empty my bladder often

2. Double pee - With this you pee until you feel you're empty, stand up, then sit down and sometimes you can trickle out some more. (This came from my mom's urologist)

3. I NEVER leave the house w/o wearing Poise anymore! Especially because of the car trip part!

I get this problem a lot too. Mainly when I have an infection brewing in my lungs though. Or if I have a coughing fit I will let a little out. I can go to the bathroom and go sit back on the sofa and if I have a coughing fit some will still trickle out. Depends on how hard I cough.

It hasn't been too bad yet where I need to mention it to my Dr but when I need to start wearing a pad for it then I will mention it to him.

This is actually a REALLY treatable problem. The problem is from chronic and constant coughing the pelvic floor muscles in us girls aren't as strong as they should be. ('Normal' girls sometimes find this when they're on a trampoline because they're not used to it).

Anyway there's really beneficical excercises you can do that DO help. It's basically bum clenching (!) for 10 seconds, repeated 10 times. Then you clench from the front for the same amount of time/cycles. Do it whenever you think of it and gradually you should notice a difference and should hopefully eliminate the problem (you still need to do the exercises fairly regularly even if the problem stops).

Didn't read all of this thread so sorry if someone already wrote all that

Hi girls,

I used to be the worst with this. I cough so hard, and it's all over...

My nurse has a theory though about pilates being helpful with this. Although nothing is proven, I'm inclined to agree with her, because since I started doing pilates regularly (about three years ago), I've had much less of a problem with it... Just an idea! I no longer have to get ready to go out, cough my brains out, change my pants, get ready to leave again... ha.

yup, me too - it's part of the reason I won't go to a gym - exercise=coughing=peed pants.

SOme bladder incontinence is hereditary, but this would show up more as you get older - not related to CF, or after having kids - think already weak muscles and sagging uterus on your bladder.

My mom had surgery for this last year, actually, which means between Cf and 2 kids and genetics I am probably doomed.
