Increasing Enzyme Dosage

DS is up to 7 pancrease MT-4s with meals and still has more stinkers/floaters than sinkers. So at his last appointment, his doctor wrote a script for MT-10s and indicated that we should gradually switch him over until we find what's right for him. We also make more of a conscious effort to stagger the number of enzymes over a meal/snack. Give him 4 or 5 and save the others for the end of the meal.

So instead of 7 MT-4s, start with 6 and one MT-10. Mentioned with enzymes it's not an issue of just automatically going to the higher number due to the different formula of each enzyme.

What have other people done when switching to a higher dosage of enzyme? I'm assuming some just switch right over to the higher dosage...

Liza,
When Zoe switched, we just switched her right away. She does still get some of her lower dose enzymes though, because if something has say 8 grams of fat, her Creon 10 will cover 6 grams, so we give her a Creon 10 and a Creon 5 (which covers 3 grams).

Love,

He used to be on zantac when he was a baby. We've always questioned whether he's getting enough enzymes. As a baby he'd sometimes poop three times DURING a diaper change. The local CF/GI doctor was never concerned because he was always within the 50th percentile, but until he was a potty trained, he rarely had a well formed stool.

Being that we've been upping his dosage and he still tends to have more shiny floaters and is starting to slip a little weight-wise, his CF doctor in the City wanted us to change this.

On a side note, DS is sooo used to pooping every time he goes to the bathroom and with little or no effort, that last night he was a bit confused with the whole process. We told him that most people only poop once a day or less. He was sitting on the toilet, hitting himself on the thigh saying "Poop, come out". Finally got him to relax and read a book and he was thrilled. "the ghost book scared the poop out of me" Sigh! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
