Inducing at 36 weeks????

I'm on bedrest and not allowed off until 37 weeks, which my doc says is full term. Inducing at 36 weeks sounds very drastic, personally I would wait and let my baby have the best possible chance at health unless my own health was in serious jeopardy and there was no other way to deal with it. A second opinion might not be a bad idea.

I'm also possibly facing the induction dilemma though, I have gestational diabetes and will not be permitted to go past my due date. You bet I'll be doing everything I can to stimulate labor once I'm off bedrest! My sister in law just had an induction and after seeing her in the hospital essentially being starved, strapped down to monitors and generally misearable-I'm going to do everything I can to avoid it.

OY! Your doc sounds like a total wacko - IMO. You're only 12 weeks, right? How on earth can she predict what will happen by 36? And why 36 when 37 is term? This sounds like horrible horrible advice - unless of course you're having massive trouble at that point. But agian, that is very far in the future.

I agree with Caroline - inform yourself! Henri Groecer's book is a great place to start. Your OB may have experience with Cf moms, but that doesn't mean that the best decisions were made for them. There is a lot of gray when it comes to Cf moms. I know with my first child there was all sorts of talk about having a pulmonsry doc there for the delivery, "Just in case" and other things that never came to fruitiion because I put the kabash on them. I knew I was FINE - you know your body and wyou'll be able to tell as your pregnancy goes how you're feeling. Trust yourself and od what's best for your baby. Babies come when they're ready (I know that there are valid reasons for inductions, but there are also plenty pf inductions that get done that needn't).

inducing at 36 weeks to avoid a 'potential' impact on your lungs is crazy, that compression will be alleviated once babies are born--hopefully at full term (unless you are having some major health issues that have ot be addressed).

I would never allow them to put my babies at risk (36 weeks is associated with a myriad of higher risk factors compared to 38) for the sake of being conservative. Many docs dont know about pregnancy in cf'ers and just assume the need to do these things. Please educate yourself and advocate for what YOU feel is the best choice.

She said they do it for all the CF women, and they have a better health outcome after wards. However, I am kind of thinking its a bad idea and that we will wait and see. However I will not let her induce me anytime before Feb9 (I would be 37 weeks then) just because something tells me thats when Ill be ready. Just wanted to see what yall had to say. She is an excellent OB, and even the High risk OB agreed with her, and my CF doctor. SO I dunno
