Hello,

I am not trying to start trouble or an uproar, but I think this is important information for people with CF or any chronic health condition to know. As I am sure you know, a major campaign issue this yearh is revamping health care. Barrack Obama is seeking to cover all Americans, regardless of employment or preexisting condition. Honestly, for those who have private insurance through their empolyer, things will not change much. But, if you lose your job, you can buy insurance from a private insurer for a reasonable cost, regardless of your pre-existing condition. For more information on Obama's plan, you can visit http://www.barackobama.com/issues/healthcare/
What I really want everyone to know is how McCain's health plan could affect each of us. McCain is seeking to increase competition among insurers by making healthcare costs (i.e. the $100 taken out our your pay check) tax deductible. Currently, income tax is not taken out of our health care cost. McCain wishes to change that. He also wishes to tax our employer's contribution to our health care. So, if your company pays $5,000 for your health insurance, YOU will be taxed for an additional $5,000 in income. To compensate for this, there will be a health insurance tax credit of $2,500 per individuals and $5,000 for families. The upshot of this, however, is that, because of this some employers may choose to drop insurance coverage as part of their benefit plan. Then, individuals will have to seek insurance on their own. And, as anyone who has tried to get insurance privately knows, no one wants to cover someone with CF - certainly not for a reasonable price. For more information about McCain's health plan, visit http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21243223/#storyContinued

Thank you for posting this, Mary.

My husband's employer has already downgraded its insurance coverage last year to reduce costs. Our personal deductible went from $250.00 to $2,500.00!!! I wish I just posted a typo, but I kid you not...

If McCain's health insurance plan would ever take effect, the results for myself alone could be devasting...

It's so easy for those who are healthy to come to a decision in regards to health insurance coverage. I wish I had that same opportunity. I am not speaking of anyone of this site by that statement either. I actually am thinking about a child's Mom that I watched during the winter months. She also happens to be the grand-daughter of my husband's employment. She has never had to work a day in her life and is voting for McCain this coming election. I enjoyed watching her little one, but we were WORLDS APART!!! One life given on a silver platter while the other has to struggle and fight to have some sort of normal existence...

One thought only to point out.

What the President thinks/wants/preaches is not going to change our healthcare system dramatically, either direction.

Congress, made up of 535 people, makes the laws; the President can sign or veto but he (or she) can't act alone. (don't forget even Iraq required a majority of those 535 people to happen, regardless of Bush's desires)

While everyone agrees our medical system is broke, you will never get enough people to agree on a fix to make all but the smallest of changes.

As long as we are a democratic society based upon capitalism the President isn't going to 'fix' healthcare; it is beyond the scope of their job.
