I agree to a point with what you are saying, Tom. But that doesn't mean we should forget about healthcare issues when we vote, but rather we should remember these important issues for ALL the representatives we vote for. Its not good enough to put a president in place that represents all your views (anyone found one out there, because I've yet to, LOL) but you need to also be as knowledgeable about your local, state and national elections as well.

The president can't single handedly change healthcare, but with the right mix of president and congress, changes can be had -- either for the better or for the worse.

Mary,

Question anything and everything relayed by the mainstream liberal media. Interesting that you went to the Obama website to get the straight scoop on his plan but took MSNBC's word at face value regarding McCain's plan. Still, I didn't quite see the taxes you mentioned.

<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>While still having the option of employer-based coverage, every family will receive a direct refundable tax credit - effectively cash - of $2,500 for individuals and $5,000 for families to offset the cost of insurance. Families will be able to choose the insurance provider that suits them best and the money would be sent directly to the insurance provider. Those obtaining innovative insurance that costs less than the credit can deposit the remainder in expanded Health Savings Accounts.</end quote></div>

this website is not a place for political propaganda

I agree with cfhockeymom, funny how you post a link to obama's site and then a clearly liberal media outlet. This post is nothing but propaganda and i ask it be removed promptly regardless of the political beliefs of anyone, it would be the same as a person posting about how good mc cain is and then siting fox news as a source for obama's plan.

Also Tom is correct in saying that the president has no power in the matter of a healthcare plan, the democratic party has had a majority in congress for 2 years and haven't touched the issue, you know the people with power in the matter. Granted, president bush hasn't done anything but again he is the president, and doens't have much say in the matter.

Yes, the previous paragraph is propaganda, afterall, propaganda can be true

I disagree a little, Robert--I think there is a need for "healthy" discourse on the candidates positions. As long as everyone is considerate and polite, maybe we can learn something. I think it's ok to post what easch candidate's website says, but then we must try to go more indepth. I am trying to find an impartial link that will provide facts and data that will inform us, to make a good choice.

This is not something that can be solved with a "sound bite" from either candiate. From what I understand, McCain wants us to be able to obtain insurance at the best price. As it stands now, you are limited within your state. New York insurance costs almost $100 more than here in Iowa...

I think this article bears reading...and this is what McCain advocates...

One thing I am ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN about--we can not have a government-run health care system. The system in Canada is now almost bankrupt--and any programs that the government subsidizes ends up in cost overruns, for which we, the tax-payer are responsible for...

Also, I think everyone is entitled to their own opinion...just keep it civil and this could be informative!

Also each candidate is trying to do what he thinks is best (I just think my candidate knows best<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">)
