Inhaled Collistin vs TOBI

Does anyone have any input regarding TOBI vs Inhaled Collistin/Collymicin (sp?).

Not in regards to how it makes you feel but how is it decided which inhaled antibiotic of the two should be used?

Don't they both fight PA?

Has anyone had more beneficial effects from Collistin vs TOBI?

Thanks!!

This is my very humble knowledge of the 2 drugs. NOT scientific; but, just pieces of information I seem to have picked up. From what I understand, TOBI may pack more of a punch. That being said...I think it is more prone to resistance and contributing to resistant strains of PA over long periods of time. I don't think that Collistin packs quite the punch; but, I don't think that it is as prone to resistance with long-term use. Though you do still need to cycle it in 4 week cycles just like Tobi. I have read that some people will take a break from Tobi and use Collistin to help their PA become more sensitive.

I have replaced Tobi with Collistin and I prefer Collistin for my routine. I just have found it easier to tolerate for myself.

TOBI is the only FDA approved antibiotic for inhalation.

that being said, tehre are many things CF docs do off label - like nebbed colistin.

this might a have bit to do with choice
