Inhaling HS

I have tried HS before and did not notice anything so I stopped it. But now I am wondering if I need to be on it longer to give it a chance? I believe I did it for one month. Any thoughts, ideas, opinions. It seems those who are on HS, swear by it so I am wondering if I need to give it a chance. It is more affordable than Colistan which is NOT covered on my insurance so I am thinking of giving it a try again.

My boy is just 5 and started HS last month so I can't say much on that question - but on insurance I can tell you there's no rhyme/reason to what a medicine will cost you. The Hypersal came in at the highest copay in my insurance plan because it is a name brand and no generic substitute packaged the way hypersal is packaged; Meanwhile colistin comes in as the lowest generic copay. So we paid almost the full price for tubes of sterile saltwater but just $10 for a the individually sealed vials of colistin + sterile water + syringes + gloves + alcohol wipes that came from his colistin rx. go figure.

I feel it immediately. It depends on where the congestion is.... If it's up in my upper bronchial tubes, all it takes is about 3 or 4 good breaths and I feel the gunk loosening and can cough it up. If the tightness is down deeper then it might take half of my vial (10 minutes) before it's penetrated the lower crud so it becomes mobile and can be huffed / coughed out. I'm using the 7% saline in the premixed ampules. I do my Xopenex nebs and then wait 15-20 minutes before I start HTS so that my airways are as open as they can be - as I was advised by the CF clinic docs. ~Juliet

adam has been doing the hs for about a year now and he can tell the difference when he does it compared to when he slacks off and just does not want to do it..(he is 14)
