Is it possible to be obese and have CF?

I hope this is not a dumb question. Since my daughter was diagnosed with CF it has made me look closer at my health issues.

I have had digestive issues for at least 12 years. Loose, watery, smelly, explosive stool and occassionally floating stools (I know TMI!). I was diagnosed with Crohns disease about 4-5 years ago. The diagnosis was not real clear. It was based on ruling out other things. They could not detect any of the normal damage in my intestines like they would normally see with Crohns. They put me on meds, but I never felt they helped a great deal, so I stopped taking them.

Before the Crohn's diagnosis, I was told they thought I had diverticulitus, stones, too much stress, etc. Many different things to explain why I had these terrible stomach pains and diareaha

I also have an issue with coughing up stuff and having to cough to clear my throat alot. This is worse in the morning. I always thought it was allergies. I have been tested for allergies (scratch test) but everything they tested me for came back negative.

But I am obese. I need to lose about 80 pounds. So I wonder, is it possible to be obese and have CF? The fact that I am obese, does that totally rule out CF?

Just looking for opinions.

Yup, definitely. There are many overweight CFers.

The funny thing about this disease is that it takes so many forms, there are no universals....just like people can be diagnosed as adults, so can people who don't fit the "profile" have it. (the thin, pale, sickly archtype.) As I learn more and more about it, I realize that like most things in life there are no guarantees.

I am sure that most people will recommend that you be genetically tested (not sweat tested) for CF. That is the only way you will know for sure if you have it.

There is one at my clinic and I myself was overweight, oh yeah and then the clinic director whom I mentioned in the thread "I am worried about my mom. Sever Carrier Symptoms" was also obese. You should chekc out the other thread I just mentioned if you have not already.

I am most definately over weight! My CF Dr even calls me her "chubby" cystic! HAHA!

But seriously, I would consider getting checked for it if I were you. It's definately possible to be over weight and have CF.
