Hey Sara,

My sister (with CF) and her husband (not a carrier) are expecting their first child in December. They have a surrogate carrying their son -- biologically my sister and brother in law's child.

They did IVF -- first time was successful... So there is hope out there that first times do work!!

Good luck!

I'm sure you do, GordonsGirl. However, the problem isn't on your half. I wish you the best with whatever route you decide to take.<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">

i guess I don't understand why a doctor would refuse a procedure because of the difference between thousands and millions... Chances are chances, and it only takes one. Sure it's the longest of the longshots, but I'm not trying to have a million eggs fertilized, and it would be awesome to save 10,000 for a college fund... or therapy if it doesn't work...

There are a number of factors including the thousands versus millions that is mentioned. Another huge factor is that when there is a blockage in the vas deferens, or an absence the sperm are forced to live and die within the testicles. Because of this, these sperm are often imporperly formed (curved tails instead of straight) and aer not "swimmers". This is caused because of the way they are improperly formed and the lack of room to move.

I highly doubt you will find a doctor who is willing to do IVF with aspirated sperm. It's also very traumatic to the sperm to do an aspiration and many of them are in shock after the retrieval.

I know how you feel right now, I looked at this option for years with numerous doctors, never did find one willing to give it a try. You are right, you might be the one lucky one.

If you do find a doctor willing to do this, can you please keep us updated here- I'm curious to know.
Thank you
