laundry question

I've always washed DS' clothes separately. Mainly 'cuz of those teeny tiny little socks. I wash everything in HOT water, unless it's our work clothes that need to be in cold. I'm hoping to get a clothes line up 'cuz I read an article in BHG a few years ago about how sunshine kills germs as well.

When I go to my inlaws lake home I ALWAYS bring out own towels because I swear she leaves theirs in the washing machine for a couple days and THEN dries them and they STINK like mildew. She doesn't apparently smell it, so therefore it doesn't exist. At least she bleaches the bedding and dries that asap.

I separate laundry into categories:
1. "butt" loads - anything below the waist
2. towels and washcloths
3. kitchen towels (I use a TON of them instead of paper)
4. Everything else

Most the time I use a warm/warm setting and just detergent. I don't usually use that oxy stuff on clothes because it irritates all of us - but it goes on kitchen towels because it helps clean them & also the washing machine.

Did you guys start doing all these laundry tricks because of CF or have you always done it this way? I am feeling a little dirty sitting here in my "butt" clothes, because my laundry routine consists of doing a load of whites in hot water (maybe just warm depending on my mood) and a load of darks in cold water (don't want them to fade). If I have enough towels I'll do a separate load, if not I just throw them in with the darks (aka cold water). Now my Mom was not known for her housekeeping skills, so maybe I just didn't learn it correctly, but it never occurred to me to wash "butt" clothes separetly<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-blush.gif" border="0">. And doesn't all the hot water bleach out your clothes?

I've always done my laundry the same -- jeans, dark underwear, towels in HOT; white underwear, towels, bed linens in hot -- sometimes throw in bleach.

Only difference was to separate DS clothing and that's only because of the teeny tiny socks AND I have to pay more attention to pre-treating with shout for stains. And I always wash his clothes on HOT.
