I would love to hear some advice and stories on how and if any of my fellow Cysters and Fibros have increased or maintained their FEV1's. Have any of you beat the odds and gone against the decline by following a certain regimine or exercise program? What have you focused on to do this?
I have recently had a drastic and unexpected increase in my FEV1. It jumped well over my basline and to a point I never thought I would see again. This time around it was a matter of attacking a newly cultured bacteria with a long and intense anibiotic therepy over the past few months. Now that I am feeling pretty great health wise, I want to maintain these awesome numbers as best as I can. The problem is, I am not all that great at exercise or sticking with an exercise routine for any consistent time period. I am very complient with my airway clearance and medications- but there is always room for improvement.
I tend to read a lot of posts on how to treat symptoms-but would like to hear what my friends do to prevent and maintain. I like to hear details- not generalizations. Does anyone feel like sharing any great tips on how they maintain/increase lung function, gain or maintain a great weight, or just sustain a good quality of life? If you exercise, what do you do? If you take herbal supplements, what is it an how much? Let's share our secrets!
I will start. One of my biggest tips on staying healthy is the power of water. I am a strong believer in staying very well hydrated. As much as I hate water...I drink 10-12 glasses a day and I find that the more hydrated I am, the healthier I stay. I also find it helps me keep my mucus thinner during an exacerbation.
