Levaquin

Please everyone.....I am not telling everyone to not take Levaquin or any other med just because you are experiencing side effects. I just wanted you all to be aware of how meds affect you and discuss with your doctor other options and let him/her know what is going on. The point of my post was not to bash Levaquin. I have had side effects from other drugs as well. I just probably will look for an alternative to this one the next time around or watch the side effects a little closer. All meds come with a certain amount of risk and reward.

Good to remind people to be aler to this.

My late husband got terrible tendonitis. Once his Achilles tendon "blew" while he was sleeping.</end quote></div>

Yes....serious problems with the Achilles tendon is a side effect and I am sure not many of us are aware of that. I would have certainly liked to have been more informed. I think docs are usually so concerned about targeting the bugs that side effects are an after-thought and not discussed to the extent that they should be.</end quote></div>

I think people should at least be advised of the possibility and told that they should do any strenuous exercise during the time they are on Levaquin-- that's no time to be putting extra strain on one's tendons.

I just wanted to add that the strange sleep/mood changes/tendon issues are a possible side effect for all antibiotics in the quinolone class: cipro, avelox and levaquin. I took Avelox for 18 months with small amounts of time off in between courses before having the tendon problems. I also had a problem with caffeine while on these abs. It made me excessively jittery...not in the hands shaking way, but in the I'm going to jump out of my skin way.
Unfortunately, nothing I have been on since the tendon issue ruled out the quinolones has made me feel better the way avelox did.
Melissa (I am a 33 yr old lurker with bronchiectasis only. I have learned so much here.)
