Hi all...
This is my question to the "forum"
does anyone have any knowledge or first hand experience with
liver failure in an adult male with CF. He is 43 years old and is my brother.
He was admitted to a hospital last week with distended belly, jaundiced, coudn't eat, and they have diagnosed liver failure. ... guess I am fishing here, but any replies would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Stephen

I'm so sorry about your brother!
I have liver issues, and had a really bad liver infection last year (about died) but I don't know much about liver failure in cfers. Most of mine seem to be related to common bile duct infections and blockages. There are a few people here who also have liver issues; I hope they know more and can help you. You might want to do a google search for cystic fibrosis and liver disease, and make sure your brother sees a liver doctor who is familiar with cf livers right away. I will pray for him!

I am so sorry.

I can't offer anything very helpful on this topic. Liver failure was the "official" primary cause of death of my late husband - secondary to everything else. (And goodness knows what "everything else" was at that point - certainly not just the bronchiectasis or the connective tissue disorder, but also lots of meds for many years, blocked and overstretched ducts everywhere, sepsis, etc.)

I second the thought of connecting with a liver specialist ASAP.

Thank you for your reply... I realy do appreciate it...
He is going to see some specialists next week and they are going to put him on a drug therapy to make up for the lack of liver function.
I've been searching the internet for answers and can't really find too much for liver failure tied with CF...
I can't find anything on the prognosis... I know it isn't great, but jsut an idea would be good.
