This may be a stupid question but why is one needed? How would we be treated differently in the hospital?

I do not have CFRD and am only on prednisone (which I have noted in my wallet). I have thought about getting the bracelet but was interested to know why it is needed.</end quote></div>

Just knowing what medical conditions or meds you are can make a world of difference in treatment. Between interactions of meds, infection control & just therapeutic methods given.

It gives them an idea of what your medical history is if you are unable to speak. Just like when they ask ?? of your medical history along with your name, address & insurance LOL!

Also when your sats are kinda crappy, and you're breathing harder than is "normal," they won't immediately jump to "S/he must have a punctured lung! Chest tube!" They'll check more carefully, knowing that your lungs are naturally garbage. CF symptoms (even small stuff we may not always notice) may look like a problem that needs fixing to an uninformed eye. And quite obviously, they can't fix it. If they know everything that you do, they can put their effort into things that can be fixed.

Stuff like that.

This reminds me of when my girls were little and in car seats still...I typed up all their medical information on a post card and laminated it and bobby pinned it to the side of the car seat. I was always worried that if we had a car accident, and I was not able to speak, that someone wouldn't know all that important information.

I have been thinking about getting them a medical braclet or something, so all this information you guys have been given is great!
