Military and CF

My husband is Active Army, and my son is the one with CF. There are only a few Army bases that have CF centers and where we are here we have to go to a Navy CF center. We were placed on orders many times for different places but because of the EFMP we couldnt go there, including Germany, Texas, and Hawaii, even though Hawaii has a very good Military CF center. There is an AF base in CO, and there are ways to get around the EFMP thing. if there is an accredited center and you have Tricare prime you can go to that one if there are no Military centers close. So it really is depending on how much you want to fight to be somewhere.

Hope this helps

My husband is in the AF--has been for almost 12 years. Our son is the one with CF. We have never received CF care from military docs --always been a civilian CF Center. Never had a problem getting them to give us a referral. If you would like more info please feel free to PM me about specific bases we've been to and where we are right now.

Hi...we are active duty AF and I would be more than happy to give you some info...I have been a military wife for almost 16 years now...and my daughter has been seen at 5 different CF centers...we are currently stationed at Langley AFB in Virginia...like Victoria, we are seen at the naval hospital in Portsmouth...assignments are many times based on career field not just EFMP...we were stationed at Tyndall AFB (another Florida base)...so I can give you info about care in that area...I do know that some families get overseas assignments, but we have always been told that we would not get medical clearance. As far as the EFMP, I do know that family is not always a consideration, but has more to do medical care availability. Feel free to PM with any questions...: )

I do know back in 89-92 which is when we were in Germany, I went to a German hospital. First time I was ever admitted was over there. I know that at first they told my dad we couldnt go because of me and my mom, but my dad's commander helped him, plus they hand carried my medical records and found a place for me to be treated. Which resulted in us going.

I forgot Tyndall I knew there was one I was missing. At this point we figure it be a shot to try overseas for the fact I am pretty healthy right now, and we dont know how long that will be. So we figure we try that before stateside. Its something we have to decide here soon before they decide for us. I have dealt with one military doctor who happen to be my doctor at birth then when I came back from Germany up until I got pregnant with my daughter. Otherwise my CF doctors are all civilians.
