More Enzymes

Sometimes, too if your child is taking longer to eat, the enzymes need to be divided. When DS was a baby we'd give him all 3-4 enzymes at once because we didn't want to risk interupting him and have him stop eating. Nowdays he takes 4 at the start of his meal and 3 in the middle since he dawdles. With Snacks, I start with 2-3 and keep adding a couple at a time.

And it is so variable. A local family had numerous issues with their child and I think finally used mucomyst orally to help cut thru the mucus to make the enzymes work better.

Hi
My daughter is 8 mos old and takes alternating 2 w/ feeds, and 1 1/2 w/ feeds. i guess 2 each time would be too much. She takes Creon 6, it's a new formula of Creon. She is only 13 lbs though. So his dose sounds about right.

Mbrandazzo: my other DS is almost 5 and she is about 33 lbs. She takes 2 of the Pancrecarb MS 16 w/ her Boost, and usually only 1 with foods as she doesn't eat as much at meals. They were concerned she was getting too many taking 2 with all meals. He weighs less and is getting the same or more of them. How many times does he take them each day? I guess I wonder who's nutritionist is correct. Sometimes I think maybe she needs more, but I am told she is getting the max?

Enzymes are really weird until you understand them and scary, Brandon is on Creon 1200 ( the old creon 10 ) he is 24 pounds, 16 months and take 5 pills each meal and 4 each snack. I have him on such a high protein and high fat diet he always hits the top if not more than whats is recommended for weight and age. you will know if its too much due to bowl issues such as constipation and such. with creon I know that it hits the stomach and last for 2 hours gradually loosing the intensity that it works at. So if he takes more than an hour to eat something high fat, protein, card, calorie then he would need more at that hour mark, although if its not high in those he is fine, so we try to shoot with the items that are high first then go for lower to no items. Also if you administer them in food that have natural enzymes it will act as a booster, such as papaya, or mango puree.

Thank you everyone for your replies. It helps to know that when we do start to pay for them, the doctor can write them as a script for a one month supply with one copay (Thanks, Harriet <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">. We go by what his bm's look like. If they get loose at all, the doctor says to add a pill. He is on Nexium, once a day, because of a mysterious morning cough. He was on generic zantac, but that just wasn't working well enough. Enzymes are different than anything else we give our children.
