I am wondering if anyone here knows if the Methicillin Resistant Staph is more contagious than other bugs besides the cepacia? I have cultured it and I am just curious because my sister also has cf and I don't want to pass it to her. Thanks.

The risk of any CFers transmitting any bacteria to another CFer are high. No matter what the bacteria.

If a CFer comes in contact with MRSA, Cepacia, PA, H. Flu, or the common cold for that matter you have a chance of picking it up.


Some bacteria are more <b> virulent </b> than others... that might be what your'e referring to. It would much more detrimental to your sister's health if she caught cepacia from you as opposed to catching MRSA from you.

This is why the CFF asks that cepacia patients not to come events... not because Cepacia is easy to catch but rather because it's so virulent.

But if you carry both MRSA or Cepacia, another CFer isn't more likely to pick up one bug from you more than the other.

My MIL had MRSA and her doctor wouldn't let me near her without a gown, head cover and mask because of my lung problems and that was even before I was dx'd with CF....I'd wear a mask at least around your sister. Better to be safe than sorry!

I am just curious, I noticed in the last paragraph of the article you mentioned that it says individuals with CF who are colonized with MRSA, regarless of whether or not they are actively sick, shall not attend CCFF sponsored meetings or events. This is in Canada; does anybody know if this is also the case in the US?

YES Lefty. Bactrim worked for me. I suppose each person is different depending on what meds they have used in the past etc.
