UPDATE - Mucus and a 5 month old
HI - well you Moms were right (you are all so smart and should be doctors)- Okay first off, we were told Tom has pneumonia and we spent last night and today in hospital. BUT we are now home and it is not pnuemonia!! YAY!!
The story goes: We went to clinic yesterday morning and the doctors still insisted his lungs were clear, but they thought the x-ray was a good idea. So we went home with a diagnosis of bronchitis and were given a whole list of new meds. I then received a call at 5.30pm and was told the x-ray showed pneumonia on his right lung and to get to hospital. So, they told us the plan was to do a bronch and insert a picc line later today.
But, then one of the CF Docs requested a new x-ray as she thought the first one needs further investigation before they do the procedures. So we waited and waited and finally our Doc delivered the good news that it is not pneumonia, it is instead mucus plugs moving around his lungs, his right lung is now clear, the plug is now on the left lung. So we have been sent home with all sorts of new meds to treat everything aggressively so we can keep him mucus free! So the fun now begins in rearranging our schedule that we had in place to accomodate all the new meds - gotta say CF certainly keeps you organised!!
Tom was such a trouper through it all he remained very flirty with all the nurses, looks great and one would never know he is sick! Best of all big brother is just thrilled to have him home - he was quite worried that he would not see his baby for 2 weeks! They have restricted visitors to parents only at our hospital because of H1N1!
Anyway, thank you all so much for your support, it has meant so much to my husband and I in this very worrying time - your advice and knowledge will be eternally cherished!! As you all said, trust your gut - I will forever more x
