my experience with pari

I have thought of getting the eflow but it is still controversial and if I am going to spend that much on a neb I guess I would like it to be a sure bet. My doctor is not a big fan of it either although I do think I could convince him to prescribe it.

I think I may try the pari trek s (although I am not a big fan of pari at this point). I have the pari trek and it is too slow to use on a daily basis but it is quiet.

Thank you everyone for your help and advice.

be careful about the trek -

it will render pulmozyme and TOBI useless..... it can only be used with albuterol and cromolyn

Maybe I did get a faulty one. Does anybody else have experience with the ultra II?

I have an old pulmo-aide and it is the quietest compressor I have but definitely not as powerful...therefore it takes longer to do nebs.

It would be so nice to hear the TV (without blaring it) while doing my nebulizer as it would pass the time better.</end quote></div>

I have the Pari Proneb Ultra II right now. I bought it about 3 months ago and it replaced my Pari Proneb Ultra. The Ultra II is smaller and more quiet for me. I'm happy with it. I can hear the TV over my Ultra II just fine. We do turn it up a little but not much.

I used to have a Pulmo-aide, a long time ago and with each upgrade there has been a noticeable decrease in sound. 3 months ago when I replaced the Pari Proneb Ultra, there was a drastic sound change as it was gearing up to die. It became much louder then normal, and then suddenly stopped working. So I equate when these machine become loud, that there is something wrong, or you need to change the filter, etc.

I also have a pari trek right now and it is not as powerful as the Ultra II (or regular Ultra) so I don't use it much anymore. I'd rather carry the Ultra II around just for the sake of power/time efficiency, and being able to do all the meds with one machine, ie: albuterol, HS, Pulmozyme, Tobi. The pari trek is only approved to use with albuterol, not Pulmozyme and Tobi. I think b/c it isn't as powerful, it can't deliver those meds efficiently.

Pulmozyme and TOBI require a certain pressures, called PSI, from a compressor in order for the medication to be useful in the lungs.

The Trek does not meet the PSI requirements. Therefore the medications will be useless in the lungs.

If you call the CFF and ask them about this, they will tell you the same thing. I found out after I was getting sick aftering using the Trek for a month. I later found out that I basically wasn't getting any Pulmozyme or TOBI in my lungs.

I don't want others to suffer the same fate... it wasn't so infuriating!

You're not alone in this... My PARI ProNeb Ultra II is EXTEMELY LOUD! I have to have the TV on nearly full blast and cannot hear people who are sitting next to me talking unless they really raise their voices. It amazes me. I also thought I'd be upgrading since going from a ProNeb Ultra from about 10 YEARS ago! That machine was MUCH quieter than this one! And, not only that, but it takes LONGER to do my nebs than it did with the other machine! It takes about 12-15 minutes for an ampule of albuterol! H.S.... forget about it! It takes about 45 minutes to get HALF of it nebbed... I'm very disappointed and also wanted to ask PARI why it takes sooooo long to do a treatment! I actually have a 10 year old (at least) other neb machine (I can't remember the name) at my parents' house that cuts my treatments in half compared to the PARI II... I FINISH my H.S. in about 15 minutes with that machine. I am very unhappy with the PARI II... So, I share your frutration and experiences.

Good luck finding something that works. Unfortunately, my insurance won't cover another neb machine (I got this one about 9 months ago) so soon, so another one is out of the question for me. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">
