My Make-a-wish

Has anyone been asked by the Make-a-wish foundation to make a wish? I went to Australia 2 years ago and it was the best experience in my life. I am now 19 and will cherish that trip with my family forever. Being a 24 hour plane ride it was worth ever second! I was wondering if anyone has done one?

I went to Ireland with my family 4 years ago as my wish, I was 18 at time. We had a wonderful time, and I too will cherish the experience forever. Make-a-wish is such a wonderful organization.

When I was 8 and my brother was 9 we got to Disneyland over Christmas break. We had a great time, and it was so cool to go to the beach and swim in the middle of winter! We never would have been able to take that trip without Make a Wish so now I donate to them every year when one of my local radio stations has a telethon.

Hi, we were told by the Make a Wish Foundation that you had to make your wish by age 18. My daughters knew about it but never asked. My oldest daughter finally decided to ask to make her wish when she was 15. Her wish, to go see the Rolling Stones. She got it and she had a blast. As did we all. She actually wished for a specific concert, so we were sent to Arizona (a place we once lived) She was able to go to the concert and see some old friends, go horseback riding in the desert and just have a great time. Our youngest daughter, 14, is thinking about making hers. We were told here in NE that it couldn't be out of the country because she'd really like to go to Spain. She says she would like to go to the Bahamas or Jamaica or something like that but she's not sure if they'd allow it. I guess we'll see what happens. We'll be back in Texas by then.

Make a Wish was started for kids with a life threatening illness. Cancer, leukemia, AIDS, CF.

It does not matter how sick you are just that since CF is fatal. I got asked through my doctors office at Mass general. At the time I was 17 and I had to decide before I turned 18 because after that the make-a-wish does not do it. They(Make-a-wish reps.) approached me with the choice to wish. At the time I was healthy so it does not matter the state you are in its just that you have CF that you can make-a-wish.

I've never posted to this board before but was just reading it today. I have a 12 year old with cf and she wanted to go to Hawaii one year for Christmas. The Make-A-Wish Foundation was wonderful. Sarah had a blast and that is something she will never forget.

i have to say i am not a fan of make a wish as i had one dream which was to meet Jenson Button ( british formula 1 driver ) and they turned round and said i was not ill enough and refused to help me . but in the end my mum wrote to Jensons formula 1 team and explained the situation and they sent me 2 vip passes to see Jenson at a testing session and it was the best day of my life so i am greatful to my mum . I did go to this thing called dream flight when i was 13 and they took loads of sick kids not just CF toflorida and i had the worst time my carer was so horible to me she wouldnt let me go and be with the friends i made she called me a spoilt brat adn told me i was ruining her hoilday it was horrible .

Shamrock,
Here's a link for how to contact Ireland's Make a Wish Chapter. You can nominate yourself. Or, if you don't feel comfortable doing that, ask a friend or family member to nominate you. It's definitely worth a shot! Let us know what you find out.

Jo, for what it's worth, it's your DOCTOR's statement that ultimately determines your eligibility; therefore, your doctor must have been the one to decide you weren't sick enough. Apparently, he must have been a jerk (at least in my book!)

Brandi, and anyone else in the US, here's a link for you.

For anyone else, just use the link for Shamrock - there's a pull down box for all the countries that offer Make a Wish other than US. Personally, I think ALL children with cf should be granted a wish.

aweeeee Jo thats horrible ='( so..they would probably tell me im not ill enough too...alright..now im not too keen into trying to 'make a wish' your mom is very sweet for doing that that carer was probably jealous that you had more friends then her too...
