Thanks anonymous, for that. I don't think I'll nominate myself though. I kind of feel like I'd be taking advantage of it because...I dunno.. I just think Im fortunate in that I have travelled before so there are probably loads of sick kids out there that deserve it more then me and maybe can't afford to go by themselves.
Thank you for your reply.

I looked for ones for people over 18 but you have to be in the last 6 months of life. I would love to travel somewhere or meet someone famous. I haven't traveled anywhere ever so that would be fun.

Shamrock, I do NOT think it would be taking advantage of it. That is precisely what Make a Wish is for - to grant wishes to children with life threatening illnesses. And, your wish doesn't have to be to travel somewhere - it can be to meet someone or even to receive something you want. I have a coworker whose grandson has a chromosomal defect that is always terminal. The little boy is 5 now and is the oldest known living child with this defect (very rare). His mental function is approximately that of a one year old. As such, he truelly wouldn't enjoy a trip somewhere or anything of that nature but he absolutely LOVES watching tv. Make a Wish gave his family a large screen tv with surround sound and tons of videos of his favorite characters. Wish for a car In all honesty, although I don't know you, but just from reading your posts these past few months, I say you DO deserve your wish granted!

Lil Strawbery Shortness, I have never heard of Make a Wish, here in the US telling someone they weren't "sick enough" to be granted a wish. In fact your doctor has to approve that you are in well enough condition to be able to go on your wish. Having CF is enough to be granted a wish by the Make a Wish Foundation. When you are well enough to enjoy your Wish is the best time to go. Having CF kinda gives you that "luxury" unlike a child with cancer or leukemia. When my daughter decided she wanted to make her wish she told her nurse at the CF center. She simply asked, "what do I do if I want to make a wish?" The nurse took it from there and we were contacted by the Make a Wish people. Your granted wish includes your immediate family, so if you have brothers and sisters living at home they get to take part.

They gave us about 6 rolls of film (we had our own camera or they would have supplied us with disposable cameras they said). When we got back we gave them the rolls, they developed them and a volunteer made a scrap book. My daughter's wish was to see the Rolling Stones. They tried to arrange for her to meet Mick Jagger but had difficulty getting ahold of his publicist and when they did it was kinda too late and they said "sorry". That didn't matter to her because she hadn't asked for that, but it would have been an unbelievable bonus if she had been able to meet him. Her wish came with a limo ride from home to the airport, a rental car, a limo ride to and from the concert, concert souveniers, a couple of new outfits (and one for her sister too), the hotel, airfare, and extra spending money for touristy type stuff and food. They told us the idea was that we did not have to spend much if anything at all, and a limo ride back home from the airport. Best of all, the memory to last a lifetime. They asked for a Wish and two back up wishes. What an experience. You should ask your CF center about Make a Wish.

I am really lost...is there any place at all that caters to adults with CF (my boyfriend is 19) and give wishes to them? I really want to give my boyfriend the chance to make a wish, I have been looking EVERYWHERE! Almost every place cuts off at age 18. He REALLY needs this now in his life...if anyone knows of any places that will grant a wish for those over 18 that arent going to die within a year, let me know. Thanks

Liza they didnt tell me that...they told someone else..and i was just replying then i probably wouldnt be able to..but i didnt know that your doctor had to say you were well ENOUGH hehe thankyou

I don't know what the specifics are, but I didn't go through Make-a-Wish. When I was in 6th grade, they said I wasn't sick enough, so I got a wish through The Starlight Foundation. They may or may not have an age 18 cut-off. It's worth checking into, at least.

I just saw Liza's response. It happened to me, believe it or not. When I was in 6th grade... roughly... 10 years ago, the Make-a-Wish foundation said I was not sick enough, and so we went through Starlight instead.

www.dreamfoundation.com is something for people over 18. Someone emailed it to me a few months ago. So I'm not sure the qualifications or anything.

I made a wish when I was 17 I went on a seven day cruise to the bahamas. jamaca, cozumel, camen Islands, and Flordia keys. It was the most amazing experice of my life something that I will never forget. They did evrything that they could to make sure I had the best experince. All expences were payed I ever got to take my boyfiend they also made a scrap book of all the pictures we took. On the ship they had a make a wish flag and I got to go to all the partys and I got to meet the captin and stand with him as we departed then I got to go to a private party with the captin. It was just amazing everything about it. If you are under eight teen dont miss out on the oppertunity, because if you are like me that was a once in a life time thing and if it wasnt for make a wish I could never had done that or anything like it.

I know that make a wish wouldn't give you a car, my cousin also has cf, and she wanted a car for her mom and her to get back and fouth to doctors appointments. They are very poor and don't have a car and they said it can't be an automoible. Just thought I would share.

Jenni,

When I was 16 a local dealership donated a truck to the Sunshine foundation for me, Of course I never recieved it. My mother and step-father told them I had a car but REALLY wanted a computer, I did have a car but it was a hooptie, and I REALLY wanted the truck. Oh well, the story of my life I recv'd a 386 computer that was obsolete in 6 months because that was what my step-father asked for!!!!

Oh my gosh Emily! I didn't realize that Make a Wish would actually tell you, you were not sick enough! Goes to show I guess the differences in the foundation from state to state. I am going to have to look into that. At the rate Rachel is going (my youngest), she is in good health, only hospitalized for IV once. Don't even think it was needed, they ended up sending her home after a week. A whole other story, anyhow... She would never get her wish granted. I assumed all Make a Wish foundations would be the same. Life threatening illness. Oooooh, that just pisses me off to hear that they did that to you. Anyone.

I cant believe the guideline for dream foundation. How silly for one thing dr's aren't always right, we all know that. They can't tell you if your in your last 6 months. Then with CF and you are that bad as if you want to travel. Dont make sense.

Also people with cancer can be told, sorry you have relapsed, theres nothing more we can do for you, so they know that they may have like weeks to live, but in a person with cf, it is usually a lot less easier to determine

That is not true they did not approach me and say that I wasnt sick enough. I highly doubt that was the case. for me I was in best health and they searched me out I did not find them. It is a great organization and in no way would they turn you down.

That's nice that they searched you out and all, but don't call me a liar. 10 years ago, when I was 11, the Make-a-Wish told me I was not sick enough to receive a wish.
