Nebulizers v.s. inhalers?

First thing M's doctors did was switch him from Pulmocort and Albuetoral nebs to Advair inhaler with a spacer. We still have to use the neb for pulmyzme and Tobi. I've heard they are looking at Tobi via an inhaler as well. I'm hoping and praying it works, because Tobi is SOOO hard to get M to cooperate and use properly.

My son started an albuterol inhaler for his 2nd of 4 treatments a day when in school last year. To tell you the truth when he is at home I still do the nebulizer because I feel it does a better job. I too find that Xopenex works better (the effects last longer) when nebulized rather than inhaled using one of those little inhalers. But maybe that could be a difference in the dosing from one of those Ampules vs. two puffs on the inhaler???

I'm curious just how much better the spacers are for inhaled meds and how does one go about getting a spacer? Is the spacer something that requires a different prescription and comes with the inhaler or is it something that's purchased separately or ??? That said, I'm about to get my Xopenex inhaler prescription refilled because I find it indispensable at work at times (like when I tense up right before public speaking!). <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
