Oh yeah, there are times when the piano and I get more pulmozyme than Emily does...but overall, I know she's getting what she needs. I always figure, there are some cf kids out there who aren't getting anything, so the something she is getting is better than nothing!

We don't have a cute mask, but I don't think it would hurt. And I agree with letting her play with the hose to spray your face. We also tuck the hose under Em's shirt to tickle with the air. It works great for blowing up small inflatable balls, too. Doing something fun before a treatment might work at her age...just to take the fear out.

And, I LOVE the idea of the "grab bag" for pt times. I just might start that.

And, (for the 2nd time) I totally get what you mean by needing to check out the child development books. I am way off in my expectations for Emily, too, I think. I my case, I assume she can't do things that she can. When I think back, her sister did these things for herself at this age (drink from an open cup - no sippy, put on her coat by herself, pick which shirt to wear...) I just forget that Emily can. Or, maybe I"m so pressed for time now that its easiert to do it myself... Anyway, you're not alone in that department. I need to work on it too!

Em,

The white noise maker reminded me of when my son without CF was a baby. He was sooo cranky. The one thing that calmed him was the vacuum cleaner, wierd I know. At the time we lived in a small condo, and the vacuum was running all the time. We had only one area rug in the small apartment but it was the cleanest rug ever!

Rebecca,

That is soooooo funny. Kids are remarkable creatures with their little "quirks" that provide normalcy and comfort for them. I'm sure the rug weighed less than it did when you first put it down too! Thanks for sharing that anecdote. I needed the smile!

Tami,

I've reread the 15-18 months chapter in my what to expect the toddler years and HOLY COW do I need to be doing more to help Abby assert her independence. I'm doing everything for her!

Liza,

I asked some folks what they thought about 15 months and TV and the (keep from screaming in terror) one show that was PROMISED to me that would keep her attention for any amount of time (It almost hurts to type this) is TELETUBBIES. I would rather try Barney the Purple Dinosaur of Terror than those freaky little non-communicative creatures! Maybe I'll just record some different shows on PBS during the day and see what works. Teletubbies..I shudder to think...they so give me the creeps! LOL

Thanks to everyone for suggestions. I took Abby in yesterday for a check in with our pedi because the day care said that she was not feeling well and was acting odd all day (tired, sleepy, not very playful, slow) Pedi cultured her nose. We have our first "discolored" runny nose in her life thusfar. It has always been clear, but now it is the strangest color green I have EVER seen. We should have the results in tomorrow. I'm hoping for nothing. Pedi is thinking it is MRSA. But he's great because he worries about the worst possible and then we are always pleasantly surprised when it isn't!

I'm off to fish a 3 year old out of the tub. Got to go get my bait!

Omigosh - I must have blocked teletubbies out of my mind. Creepy -- we had one dvd and I was always thinking how surreal it was, was waiting for something bad to happen like a slasher flick. At least as he got closer to age 2 he got into Spongebob and I can stomach that.

Another thing we did instead of using the mask from time to time is the blow by method. I know, I know a lot of the medicine goes into the air, but with albuterol/atrovent, we figured he was at least getting some of it if we held the tube/end of the nebulizer up to his nose. Think the biggy was the elastic on the mask bugged him -- pulled his hair?

Hope she's feeling better. DS would act that way prior to getting ear infections. No fever at first, but would act sleepy, would be clingy and wouldn't want to drink from his bottle.
