Hi HRod
Just wondering...my daughter has psuedomonas (18 yr old) and I think has had it a # of years. They never made a big deal about it but I am wondering if her docs should have put her on Tobi a long time ago to try to get rid of it. I was under the impression that you could not eliminate it. We have clinic on Monday and I will ask then but thought I would ask you now.
Also does anyone have a constant sinus drip and if so any good way to zap it? She has sinus disease (about 6 surgeries in past) is on Astelin, Nasonex, does sinus irrigations 2xs a day. Really any of coughing is due to this stupid drip.
I want to check about the twice a day Pulmozyme too...did not know about the parameters 85%. She does once a day and has been on it for about 2 years. Cant notice a change...her PFTs run about 95-125% But if they tell us it is good and it is working we do it!

Physicians believe that they can get rid of PA if they catch it right when the patient first cultures the bug. But if a patient has had it for a # of years, the chances of getting rid of the bug are slim to none.

A good way to treat a sinus drip:

1. Upgrade to a better intranasal steroid. Nasonex is one of the weakest medications. Flonase and Nasacort AQ are significantly more effective. Flonase contains alcohol, however, which could irritate the sinuses, so I go with Nasacort AQ.

2. Take a non-drying anti-histamine like Claritin or Allegra. Claritin is pretty weak efficacy wise, so I go with Allegra.

3. Get skin tested for allergies (smack your doctor on the head if he/she suggests a blood IgE test). Eliminate allergens in the home (once skin test results come back) such as down comforters, dust mite encasings on the mattress, pillows, and dust mite powder on any carpets. Get a HEPA air purifier for the bedroom and the room where meds are done.

I had sinus issues for years. It went away when I finally took these steps.

Got it! Thanks...Am going to ask for Nasacort AQ.
We are doing allergy drops (had the test done)...any thought on those? Our allerigist really beleives theya re just effective as shots, eliminates needs for needles and office visits..they just are not covered by insurance.,,but by the time we paid for weekly co pays the monthly out of pocket was less.
And we put a HEPA in her room. Had an Oreck air purifier and found out it produces ozone which I am sure you know is really bad! So HEPA is in place.
