Physicians believe that they can get rid of PA if they catch it right when the patient first cultures the bug. But if a patient has had it for a # of years, the chances of getting rid of the bug are slim to none.
A good way to treat a sinus drip:
1. Upgrade to a better intranasal steroid. Nasonex is one of the weakest medications. Flonase and Nasacort AQ are significantly more effective. Flonase contains alcohol, however, which could irritate the sinuses, so I go with Nasacort AQ.
2. Take a non-drying anti-histamine like Claritin or Allegra. Claritin is pretty weak efficacy wise, so I go with Allegra.
3. Get skin tested for allergies (smack your doctor on the head if he/she suggests a blood IgE test). Eliminate allergens in the home (once skin test results come back) such as down comforters, dust mite encasings on the mattress, pillows, and dust mite powder on any carpets. Get a HEPA air purifier for the bedroom and the room where meds are done.
I had sinus issues for years. It went away when I finally took these steps.
