My 7month old Tyler cultured psuedomonas and is on Tobi and Cipro for a month. I have just been sooo worried/stressed about all of this. I just need to know that he's going to be okay...I have heard not so good things about this bacteria..it scares me!! I was hoping that we would not ever have to worry about this one atleast for ALONG time... <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0"> Dr. said that if the antibiotics don't get rid of it then he'll have to be admitted to the hospital to do antibiotics through IV...and that terrifies me!! I just need some postive good stories/comments/thoughts from others who have been through this...I just need to know he's going to be okay!! Tell me it's not as bad as I'm making it out to be!! Thanks in advance for any comments and plz only POSITIVE ONES!

I remember how scared I was when Emily cultured pseudomonas. She was only one month old and it was her first clinic visit after leaving the NICU. You're right, there's a lot of stuff to hear/read about pseudo that can scare the crap out of a new parent.

Emily did TOBI 28 days on/28 days off until she had two CLEAR cultures in a row. (I think we did 5 cycles, so 10 months or so)She has never cultured it again since. SHe is now 4 years old.

Remember that as scary as this "bug" is, it's also very common. Most CF'ers will culture it at one time or another. The doctors know a lot more about erradicating it than they did years ago. Chances are good that Tyler will be able to get rid of it, at least for a while.

Have faith in your doctors, and love your little boy.

Hang in there!

My son cultured pseudomonas at one year old. He started cipro for a few weeks and then tobi for three months continuously. He cultured one month into the treatments and then once when he was three year and once when he was five years. There have been a ton of clean cultures in between. My daughter has never cultured it and only staph. Her cat scan is much worse than my sons.
Sharon, mom of Sophia, 8 and Jack, 6 both with cf, Grant, 1 without cf
