Neglect vs. Belief

A similar situation happened when I was doing pediatric asthma research. One of our study subjects died as the result of gross neglect. There were no asthma meds, the mom smoked, there was mold all over the house, cat feces everywhere...it was a heartbreaking situation.

When a death occurs in the home, there is ALWAYS (at least in the US) an investigation, unless of course the death occurs while someone is on hospice care.

It's sad that this happens to innocent children. It happens more than we realize. Some people have extreme religious practices. I totally disagree with how they handled it. They truly must have thought that praying was the best way to go.

When you consider that in other countries children who are sick or handicapped are just left on a trash heap to die, at least this little girl got to be with her parents at the end. May God rest her gentle soul.

Yes I have heard of this happening, although not with CF. The case I know of (i dont know the people personally, just what the press told me, lol) the parents WERE charged with either murder or homicide. I am not sure if both parents were convicted but I know one of them was. It was a horribly sad story and just sucked all around. The child that died was like a year maybe. I understand you have certain beliefs and whatnot, but come on. I am sure you could tell if your child was getting that sick.

Yes. My husband's uncle died at age 13 from untreated CF (due to religious beliefs). My husband's father cut off connection with his parents and never forgave them (he is deceased and I never knew him).

Definitely neglect... that poor child, and those stupid, stupid parents. I hope they go to jail for as long as possible, and their other children are put in a safe home.
