just curious, why do you think it is that irrigating cuts down on lung infections? is the theory that viruses start in our heads and float down to our chest so if we can get the bugs out before they start growing there they won't spread down south??</end quote></div>

Sinuses and lungs are connected. Infections in your sinuses can easily drip down into your lungs and start new problems there. So if you can clear up sinus issues before they gravitate southbound, you're better off. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I need to start using mine again, and I am preparing (it takes a while for me to get geared up to add something new to my routine, lol). I use Pickling salt in mine, and here is what I found for a recipe to make it at home (I have to make mine, because there is something about baking soda that irritates my skin, so I leave that out):

from:
<a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://meds.queensu.ca/medicine/otolaryngology/edu/patedu/sinus.htm">http://meds.queensu.ca/medicin...y/edu/patedu/sinus.htm</a>

<i>Home Recipe for Saline Solution:

NOTE:
Do Not Use Table Salt
250 mL (8oz) warm water
½ tsp. sea salt

OR

250 mL (8oz) warm water
1/4 tsp. sea salt with 1/4 tsp. baking soda

- Mix solution In a clean glass jar.</i>

<a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://altmedicine.about.com/cs/allergiesasthma/a/SinusIrrigation.htm">http://altmedicine.about.com/c.../a/SinusIrrigation.htm</a> :

<i>Ingredients

1/2 teaspoon of non-iodized salt (e.g. kosher, canning, pickling, or sea salt)

8 ounces filtered room temperature water (0.47 liter or 1 US pint)

1/2 teaspoon of baking soda </i>

I bought a water filter pitcher to filter my tap water first (seemed to be cheaper in the long run, than distilled water, and my dh likes filtered water better anyways <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0"> ), and then boil it (to kill the tap water germies) and then I promptly add the salt so it will dissolve. I hope that helps. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I have wondered about the neti pot...I saw it in the store today and really wanted to buy it. Guess I should just to see if it works better than what I use now which is essentially a squeeze type bottle with hypertonic solution. Jenn
