I am not sure yet if I belong here. I really hope I don't (no offense). But my 18 month old daughter suddenly started having problems gaining weight at 10 months. We have had nutrition screenings and she is taking in more than enough calories. She has gained barely 2 lbs in 7 months and is not maintaining growth. She has diarrhea at least 5 days a week and it 4-7 times a day. I have been doing research and CF is the only thing that seems to fit. She was recently diagnosed with having low muscle tone and low fat stores. I am unsure how to bring this up at her 18 month check at her pediatricians office without looking like I am crazy. I would appreciate any advice . I pray that this isn't the case but the first time I found info on CF I cried because it just seemed to fit. Its very scary. I have 4 children and none are sick but her. What should I do? Thanks so much.

just request a sweat test. Also think of other options too, sounds like my daughter who has a whey allergy, but any kind of milk allergy could do that too. with that just take your lo off dairy for a week and see if it gets better. their is just so much out their and sometime you have to figure out things because your dr.'s aren't with them all the time so if you feel its a possibility then call and get tested just to know know either way and hopefully its not and then you can go from there

Hi Jennifer, I hope your daughter does'nt have cf. With that see if you can get a sweat test done by a cf clinic. I would have her checked out by a GI doctor. Crohn's disease will give you diarrhea, poor weight gain etc. Not saying that is what it is. Just tell her ped what your concerns are and mention cf. No have nothing to lose and it will give you peace of mind. She can also have a food allergy. I wish you luck and I hope it is none of the above and just a fluke.

I'd straight out tell your pediatrician that you feel it important to rule out CF. To do so, you should ask to be CF tested (sweat first) at an accredited CF center (see cff.org and look for care centers). Many regular pediatricians are not fully aware of all the specifics that go into CF testing.

And don't worry, we don't take offense to you not wanting your dd to have CF. None of us wishes it on our kids or any other!! (((HUGS))) and best of luck, I hope you won't need to be a permanent member of our board.
